10/13/11 Tons of specks and flounder today. No monsters, but keeper fish.
Hit the water a couple hours this afternoon. Small specks and flounder. Kept two keeper specks, but the size was no where near the size of the fish yesterday.
We fished four hours this afternoon in the howling wind. Managed a few nice keeper specks, and some undersized flounder. Fun afternoon!
Had some rookies out last night. They managed 10 nice fat flounder for dinner.
47 flounder last night on a commercial trip. They were laid up thick!
Another cold night, but managed a cooler full of flounder on a commercial trip.
Nice gig trip last night. The wind was perfect but it was cold!! Stuck 27.
The gigging has been good when the weather has allowed. Lots or rain and wind. The speck fishing has picked up, have caught some nice ones the past few trips out when the weather has allowed.
We stuck 15 flounder last while trying to do some underwater filming. Had a nice size alligator swim under and around the boat, but missed him on camera.
Another great night of gigging last night, 35 fish put in the boat.
Another 26-27 flounder last night, half night. One was a BEast.
Stellar night of flounder gigging last night. 30+ flounder, and several were over 4 pounds, biggest was around 6-8.

Caught a couple keeper flounder, and spanked the small keeper speckled trout today on a half day trip. Reds would not cooperate.
Chased redfish all day today. Got into them pretty good on Topwater.
The reds were nowhere to be found today. Lots of ground covered for only a couple fish. Oh well, that is fishing for you.
Tough day of fishing after Irene. The water is a mess. We did manage a couple of nice fish.
Fishing was a little slow today following the storms that ripped through the area. Only managed a couple of redfish for dinner. Nothing like what the past week has been.
The flounder gigging stunk last night. Took a party out that had never been. Wind howled all night. Very hard to be successful in a lot of wind. Ended up with a couple, and a couple nice missed ones.
MURDERED the topwater reds this morning. Great day with newbies to redfishing and topwaters.

Long night of gigging last night. Never found the fish until 4 am! 4am til daylight, 23 flatties. Persistence pays off!!
Had a gig charter with some newbies last night. Not a bad night for rookies, though the wind never let up. One fish would go 8 pounds easy. UPDATE! Big fish went 9.24 on certified scales! Nice flattie.
The reds were chewing in the hot lunchtime sun today. They were blowing up topwaters worked really slow. The few flounder we caught were on the small side.

I have spent the past 7 nights flounder gigging with charters and commercially. Some nights have been stellar, and a couple have been just okay. You never know if you don't go!
Been a really busy (and windy) week. We have still managed some nice flounder and sheephead this week while gigging despite all of the wind.
Really windy night of gigging! Still managed a few fat flatties, and a 10 pound sheep. Missed 4-5 sheeps. The crew had a good time.

Spent several nights gigging this week with charters. We have had some good times, and stuck some HUGE sheephead a couple of nights.
The flounder were small today, but chewing hard. The reds were hitting topwater and popping corks in the early afternoon sun. Good day!

Had family out today, and a good friend. Topwater was a little slow, but conditions and pressure on the fish was not favorable at all. Caught a few fish, and played on some bars.
Topwater reds!!! Had two guys out, taught them to fish topwater. Very exciting!!
Spent the day fishing for big flounder with big baits. 6-9" Pogys. Slow day, caught one nice one, and broke a doormat off. That is how it is sometimes fishing large bait.
Totally spanked the upper slot reds on topwater this morning. Looked for some flounder afterwards, that was a little slow. Nothing but small ones.
The reds and flounder are still chewing good!! The flounder have seemed to slow a little though since the full moon.

Another great Topwater bite again today! Landed around 20. The flounder were running a little smaller today, but still keepers!!
Hit the water this morning and the topwater bite was on! Reds up to 27". Went chasing flounder afterwards, landed several keepers and a 12.8 pound flattie.
Just come in from a gigging trip. Big fish are out there. Had two 9 pounders, and several 5 pounders. Love nights like that.
Fished the Eric Powell Tourney today. Great turnout for a redfish tourney. Had a breakdown, did not even weigh in. Everyone had a bad day, only a few boats weighed fish in.
Fished three days this week. The keeper flounder are chewing hard!!! On the red drum side of things, they have been running small. Really low tides this week has made the drum fishing a little extra tough.
Made a commercial gigging trip last night. Winds laid out around midnight, so I took off. Stuck 47 by daybreak.

Had Mike AKA Topsail Angler out last night with me a few hours. Plenty of fish out there to be found. He took home a limit of 6, (gigged in a hour and a half) two of which were pretty five pounders.

Had Capt. Phil Leonard of Topsail Beach Charters out on the boat today. We landed 30 or so reds. Rat size to mid slots. Fishing has been hot!! Gulp 3" pogys have been the ticket.
What a great sightcasting day today has been!!! We found one school that was pushing water hard up the Swansboro way. Put 25-30 in the boat, saved a 24" for the wok.
Killed the reds in Swansboro today. We caught a lot of reds, but most were small slots and under. Kept 2 for dinner. Had my son out with me today.
Caught tons of reds and trout today. The wind was nice enough to sight cast most of the day. The fish were SHALLOW in the bays behind Topsail.
